My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Debate

The debate is getting ready to start.  I hope Mac wins but whoever wins will be the man who can overcome the “Senators Disease” – that compulsive need of legislators to explain every facet of a subject.  Short, direct answers will carry the day!!

UPDATE: Very few short, direct answers.  Lots of explanations.  Nothing visceral from either candidate.  Mac came the closest to connecting with average Joe’s but not by much.  If I were scoring it like a fight, I’d say 6 rounds to 4 for Mac.

  1. Not a game changer

Watched the debate this evening with good friends, some supporting one candidate and some supporting the other. Although we did not discuss it at length, my sense was that it was pretty much a draw. Certainly nobody changed sides as a result of watching the debate. I frankly don’t know how “undecideds” will react. A few quick observations: Obama referred to people, jobs and education, McCane did not. McCane seemed genuine. In sum, no zingers. In my opinion, this debate was not a game changer.

I wonder how people will react to Obama saying more than a few times he agreed with John on a particular issue or problem?

I really do not think in the current political climate debates have as much impact as they once did.

  3. I think the VP debate will draw the most attention, I just hope the media doesn’t over-hype the expectations.
