Census information released last week
noted that Falls Church has the highest
income and education levels per capita of
any city in America. One might think everyone
would be proud and most happy for their
“boutique” community. Well, maybe not
everyone. Even fair Falls Church has some
critics.
Interesting to ride around on the day after the snow…and seeing some residents follow the Code and have cleared sidewalks in front of their houses; a lot haven’t. Also noticed the big property owners along Liberia haven’t either…nor has POW3. Hope this is not fortelling of how the snow season will go especially the sidewalks of Liberia along an HOA and commerical properties – lots of folks use those sidewalks to either get to the Junction or stand and wait for PRTC.
ok, folks…December 20th is Monday and the Council will be meeting regarding the consultant’s report on Adult businesses. See it on the Agenda, but nowhere is the report posted (at least where it can be easily found).
Thought one of the comments made last time Council took this up was to have it posted for the public to see?
Considering how divisive this topic and expense has been, and knowing it is only a work session on Monday without public comment period, still would be a wise choice to get it out to the masses.

Unity in the Community meets Sun. Dec. 19 @ 6:30 pm at Buckhall United Methodist Church, 10251 Moore Drive, Manassas. Police Chief Douglas Keen of Manassas City Police Department will meet with us to share his thoughts about law enforcement issues in the City of Manassas. Join us!
CIty Council & Planning Commission Work Session on Regulation of Adult Business; 5:30 p.m.; Pubilc Works Conference Room.
Dr. Eric Damian Kelly of Duncan Associates will present his study “Background, Analysis and Recommendations Zoning Amendments Related to Sex Business”.
Personal Observation: would have been nice if Dr. Kelly had used a better phrase than “sex business” which kept more in line with the City’s temporary Ordinance terminology. Then again, in his previously published works, he uses quite a bit of colloquialisms along the lines of a social anthropologist.
@Raymond:
Yes…wordpress blogs are a HUGE spammer target since wordpress is do popular among bloggers. About the only way to cut it down is require an account to comment or captcha/recaptcha.
From reading some of Dr. Kelly’s available writings on-line, it seems a pretty safe bet that he is going to tell us what many thought in the first place i.e., this problem was and is fundamentally a zoning issue. The solution of providing alternative zoning areas in industrial zones is somthing that common sense should have dictated years ago. My hometown in upstate New York did this, years ago, with no battle royale between social conservatives and liberals. Commonsense prevailed because like Manassas we had a small center area in the village which everyone cherished and wanted to preserve.
I still maintain that heads should roll over this screw-up and I believe anyone who shops at the establishment in question does the community a disservice which for some seems to be primarily a ridiculous, flamboyant need to make some ‘do we really need to know’ expression about their sexual mores. The business in question deserves zilch, nada consideration or patronage from any citizen of Manassas.
The store answers the local community’s needs as discreetly as possible. Hopefully people will leave it alone to do its legal business. The store owners are friendly, knowledgeable and community minded. That’s why people shop in Old Town Manassas, and that what makes it a perfect fit for the old town with a “new attitude.”
I just had lunch with someone in law enforcement who gave a KK’s Temptations gift certificate away as part of a very successful CASA fundraiser last week — a women’s night out with Santa. Women from all walks of life enjoyed an event that featured male elves getting tips, sitting on Santa’s lap to open your present and buying “cookie dough” from a “Doughboy.” If can-can dancers are acceptable at the Harris Pavilion, and Neil Simon sex comedies are acceptable at the Candy Factory, then, as the News & Messenger has stated in an editorial, “KKs is OK” doing it’s legal business.
” The store owners are friendly, knowledgeable and community minded.”
Cindy,
The store owners may be friendly and knowledgeable, but they are NOT community minded.
To equate traveling can-can dancers and Neil Simon comedies with a set business establishment which sells sex toys and raunchy movies is about the level of logic I would expect from the N&M, but I’m suprised it would get past your keen pen.
So did the law enforcement individual get to sit on Santa’s lap? Or was the LE ‘someone’ Santa himself?
Well if the movies are legal, and the sex aids are legal then we should pass a local ordinance requiring everyone should buy them to keep the costs down for all.
And why should anyone be able to decline sitting on Santa’s lap at Christmas time? Do we really want long lines of unemployeed Santas in Manassas. Do you realize the damage maurading bands of Santas can do to a community?
You think its hard to get thru the door to get a slurpee at the Coverstone 7/11 now? Ho’s to left, Ho’s to the right. Maybe the Santa’s can find refuge down at KK Temptations? In the toy section?
I in addition to my buddies have already been examining the excellent tactics from the blog then all of a sudden came up with a horrible suspicion I had not expressed respect to the blog owner for those strategies. Most of the boys ended up certainly passionate to see them and have now clearly been loving those things. Appreciation for getting well accommodating as well as for picking out varieties of brilliant subject areas most people are really needing to know about. My very own honest regret for not saying thanks to you sooner.|
Nice post. I was checking continuously this blog and I’m impressed! Extremely helpful info specifically the last part 🙂 I care for such info a lot. I was looking for this certain info for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.

The individual declined sitting on Santa’s lap, as was the option for anyone who didn’t want to.
The movies are legal. The sex aids are legal.
