I’ve just sorted through my Council packet and the Mayor has called a meeting on Tuesday about the shop on Battle St. There will first be a closed meeting at 5:30 in the second floor conference room.
This will be followed by a presentation – in an open meeting in Council chambers – by the Staff and Attorney which will be followed by a session to recieve public comment on the matter (just like citizen’s time at a regular meeting). My guess is that it will be run like citizens time with 3 minutes for each speaker – just a guess tho.
I don’t know the timing of any of these meetings other than when the first one starts. I would guess that the closed meeting will be about an hour or so, the presentation from the staff will probably be about an hour and then public comment which will go on for however long it goes on for. If you’re interested in seeing the whole thing, 6:30-ish in Council chambers is my best guess. If you want to see the Council go into closed meeting at 5:30, you’re welcome to come but it isn’t all that exciting…:)
I fully support the Mayor in this as I believe we need to hear what the people have to say on the matter. I’m pretty sure that I know what it’ll sound like <grin> but I do encourage all to turn out and let us know. Trust me, it matters.

Guess y’all will bump Del. Miller’s meeting @ 7 in the Council Chambers?
Or at least push it back a bit – I am all for a presentation and then the Council accepting comments prior to the one which is bound to be more emotion than fact.

@Ray
Don’t know what the deal is with Jackson’s meeting.

If we are addressing a local/city concern and not a state concern, what is Jacksopn’s involvement here? Is he getting ready to sponsor state lelgislation? Why has he jumped out in front on this if this city matter (permitting a local business) does not fall within his jurisdiction?
It’s kind of like the feds putting pressure on the states for matters that are within the states’ sole jurisdiction. I’m a Jackson supporter but this one bothers me. He jumped the gun here and it’s kind of embarrassing. He would have a cow if the feds acted like this with the states (as they do too often).

Too bad the special session wasn’t televised. Was it the content that caused there to be no TV camera?
I stayed home since I am not a city resident. Several of us assumed you would televise the regular City Council meeting.

Why wasn’t the hijacked ‘town hall’ meeting televised tonight ?

Only regular council meetings are televised. This was a special meeting.

Two things:
Lots of citizen input, which is necessarily subjective and which you received plenty of last night; and
Sound objective legal advice, untainted by subjectivity. I want my lawyers to give me the cold hard truth even if it’s not what I want to hear. Their job is not to make me feel good, but to help me achieve my goals without litigation or, if with litigation, successful litigation. Anything less is folly.
