My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

The Ortho

Well, my family doc was kind enough to call one of the Orthopedic doctors in town and get me an immediate appointment – thanks to the Facebook family for a great recommendation on that front.  As one would expect when being fitted in, I had to wait a bit but nothing terrible.  The doc eyeballed my x-rays and spent a couple of minutes evaluating my shoulder – turning my arm this way and that and checking the tenderness.

He quickly concluded that there was very little chance of long-term damage and that it should heal in a couple of weeks.  Evidently there is a tendon that helps control the shoulder joints front to back movement and it was mashed during the crash.  So, there’s swelling and soreness but given the mobility and strength I have, he thinks it’ll heal ok.  It is my guess he treats athletes of all kinds with some regularity as he didn’t even wait for me to ask “the question”.  After his diagnosis he immediately came out with: “and don’t even get on a bike for 10 days”.  He knows the crazies when he sees us…:)  Overall I’m just thankful that I was spared the worst of it.

As for the x-ray over there, yes, those are trees at the bottom.  I had to take a picture of the film.  No digital x-rays in the ER on the outer banks.
