My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Injury update

Well, I did contact the locality down in the Outer banks.  I got an email from about half of the elected folks and from the town manager.  The Manager was supposed to call today but never did.  I checked in with my family doctor today and she recomended that I see an orthopedic doc in the next several days.  It appears that I’ll be off the bike for several weeks at least.  Dropped my ride off at Bull Run Bikes to have Danny give it the once over.  Thanks to all who emailed to wish me well.

I guess that the bottom line is that Kitty Hawk, North Carolina is a dangerous place to ride a bike.  Farther south in Nags Head it’s better but I’ll never go back to Kitty Hawk because of the danger of riding there.  It’s cute to have the “Share the Road” signs up but it takes more than that.

    ballon tires, baby, ballon tires…

Had two bikes when I was growing up there…one that was street, one for beach rodes. Widest dang tires I could find and pumped pedals like the dikens…LOL

  2. Sounds like those cute “Share the Road” signs are akin to having Jaws offshore with “come on in, the water’s fine” painted on its dorsal fin. Glad you’re progressing.

  3. Hope all turns out well Andy.

I thought you said Town of Nags Head? I worry because my parents live in Kitty Hawk and are mid-70’s and ride and are unlikely to tolerate an over the handlebars tumble. They do their riding back on the woods of KH though, not Beach 12.

Sorry for the confusion. I was injured in Kitty Hawk on Beach 12.

The First Rule of the Navy – “Water always wins”

The First Rule of Beach Areas – “Sand always wins”

Look how much winds up in your car even if you think you brushed it all off! 🙂

  6. What is ironic is that you wrecked your bike in Kitty Hawk, where the first powered flight occurred. The Wrights profession? Bicycle mechanics….
