My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Latino Festival

Manassas had a very well attended and successful event today.  Lots of great food and some pretty nifty cultural performances.  I got hit with a whip by someone dressed as the devil.  I haven’t figured that out yet.  Perhaps it is the Almighty trying to tell me something.  In any event, thanks to everyone who performed and attended the event.  Oh, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Councilmember Randolph for reading our Hispanic Heritage proclomation.

We’ve had one for several years.

  4. There is nothing wrong with a Latino festival. If Latinos who are legal residents want to have a public event, which will celebrate their heritage within the greater context of American society, I say Huzzah! I remember the Columbus Day Italian heritage festival and French American Victory Day festivals in the twon where I grew up. They were great.

OTH, if this festival was turned into a forum to promote illegal aliens in our community, then the organizers should be publically condemned. I don’t think this was the case.

  5. Well said Steve. Most of the folks I know who are concerned about illegal aliens are worried, not because they are Hispanic, but because they are breaking the law. The pro-illegal alien folks just like calling us “racists” because it is more persuasive than calling us “law-abiding.”

The Hispanic Festival is a great thing for Manassas. I am glad it went so well. I need to remember to take my son next year.
