OK, over at the right, you will see a picture I shot from my bike during a recent ride. I had never been to this location in the City until very recently and was simply shocked at the quality of the trail. This is my town and I didn’t know this was here!!!
I haven’t conducted any contests here before but I was mightily impressed with how this place looked so here’s the challenge: the first person who tells me where this picture was taken gets a prize. Be specific.
The Prize: This is a Manassas contest so the prize will be a copy of “Manassas Mosaic” from the Museum (as long as it’s available). This book was written by my High School history teacher, Rita Koman. I’ll even sweeten the pot and throw in a “Vote Harrover” campaign hat.

Is it the retention pond between Godwin and Wellington(over by Round)?

More specific. Google maps shows at least 4 bodies of water in between godwin and wellington. 2 or 3 near Round.

The railing looks like the park by Jennie Dean, do i’ll go with it being the pond behind the Boys and Girls Club.
from my BlackBerry Storm…

I think DavidB is right. I have been on the trail back there several times biking. It is a nice trail and pond.

DavidB has it. That went a lot faster than I thought – guess I don’t get out enough…:)
It is the pond behind the B&G club – it’s called the “Winters Branch Trail”. Give it a ride sometime, it’s a great little ride and hooks up to the wellington trails on both sides.
David, send me an email with an address if you want to claim your prize.

More contests! Rita’s book is a treasure.

Incidentally, the city did extensive drainage work under the pond and upstream last year. I don’t think it worked because the trail where you biked still floods with a heavy rain.

I saw that when I rode that trail. Parts of it a freshly stained red so it’s pretty obvious that it has flooded in the recent past…
