The City Manager will present his proposed budget Monday night (22FEB). It is not a time certain itme but it is scheduled to go after the auditors go at 6:15. I’d guess 6:30 or so but that is a guess. This is likely to be our most challenging budget in some time. I can assure everyone that there will be significant changes to what our local government does. If you’re interested, come on out, get educated and let your opinion be heard. As soon as I get a pdf version of the budget I’ll link to it.
As usual, this is going to be difficult. I’ll attempt to answer reasoned questions from those who make an attempt. Firebombs tossed over the transom will be deleted.
Also, a big thanks to those who have donated to my ALZ ride. I’d name everyone but some wanted to remain anonymous so I’ll just say thanks!!

Andy, may or not make Monday night, but I do follow what I can find on the City website. I like the advanced notice for several months now of the Budget Calendar and sessions…at least I can give them a new color in my Palm Calendar 🙂 and try to make a couple of interest.
One thing comes to mind, now that PWC has released there, is they are whacking at Libraries this time. I know Manassas Park is watching and from a source also know they may deduct a bit from the Shared Services Agreement if the County does not adjust for reduction in Library Services. This one part of the PWC Budget process shall be interesting to watch.
Your right about firebombers – I think there may be some as everything has come to the table…from now till 2015. One of my favorite books I used when teaching Total Quality Management years ago is titled “Sacred Cows Make the Best Burgers” by David Brandt. I think this year we be going to need a big big BBQ grill across the local governments.

Ray:
I used to ridicule all of those management books but after I was in business for myself for a couple of years I decided to give one a try and I have never looked back. I’m to write a blog post about it at some point but one of my favorite management books is “The E-Myth”. I’ll see if I can’t get a copy of the one you’re talking about! Thanks for the info.
