My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Weekend Update – Bikes and Jubilees

I went on my first century ride today.  It was in Culpeper so I could only do the 25-mile route as I had to be back in Manassas at 11:30 to help support the republican activties at the Fall Jubilee but it was still pretty intense.  The entire group rode together for the first several miles and that was a real learning experience.  I had never ridden with so many people at once nor had I experienced the kind of speed that a group of 40 riders can attain.  I checked my bike computer while we were rolling along and the group was going about 30 mph and I wasn’t really working that hard.

The other thing I learned is that you will play hell trying to keep away from a group of riders if you’re by yourself.  On the 25-mile course, I was away by a good margin but was chased down about mile 15 by a group of 8 riders.  I saw them coming and tried to stay in front but there was just no way.  Applied Aerodynamics I reckon….Next up, the Pumpkin Ride on the 24th!!

When I got back to Manassas, I hurriedly showered and went up to the OTM.  It was absolutely mobbed.  Great event and kudos to everyone involved.  I was blown away.  Lots of great things going on, the Chainsaw Chix, the rock wall, tons of vendors and great food.

  1. What a perfect fall weather day for everyone in Manassas! Glad you had a safe bike adventure, Andy. Thanks for sharing it with us daring walkers!

  2. The Jubilee was a big success this year. Its been a long time since I have seen that many people attend. They started rolling in around 9 and when we broke our booth down a little after 5, they were still strolling the streets. This year was a little different also because they mingled non-profits and vendors, but I think it helped. As a non-profit I think we got more exposure than the previous years.

  3. Andy, the fall jubilee was a great event. We were there for the farmers market, and ended up spending an extra hour checking things out–kudos to the parking garage as well. Great for these types of events.

  4. Great HS football tonight – OHS came back to win their
Homecoming 39-29 vs. Loudoun Valley! Go Eagles!

  5. 30 mph sustained on a bicycle is very impressive, perhaps even competitive status.
