The Council will have a meeting on Monday night and that’s it for August. It’s affectionately known as the “August Recess” but only the council stops meeting – all of the other committees still go. Anyway, the “Conceptual Plan” that is designed to bring some order (?) to the fire and rescue situation will be presented. There will also be some other last minut stuff, primarily finance, that will be acted upon.

Andy,
Any idea if the City is planning another Futures Taskforce. I am curious, since the previous plans were predicated on a completely different set of economic circumstances. With things being materially and significantly changed, perhaps a fresh look is in order…or not.

Steve:
I don’t know what the refresh cycle for that is. My particular viewpoint on this is that the plan should be updated from time to time but I’m not ready to revise it downward b/c the economy is in a tough patch. To me, all that means is that we need to proceed at a slower pace in order to get what we all want!
I would think that after we finish the comprehensive plan update next year it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take up the futures plan again.

Andy & Steve, procedure-wise, a Strategic Plan is on a life-cycle of every five years for updating. Since our current one was completed in late 2005, next year would be the year to begin thinking on another Futures Commission.
I recommend 2010 to begin anew as that is a point many things in Human Services, which impacts several areas of our current plan, will come to bear fruit. Keisha has me involved with the upcoming Neighborhood Conference, and has provided a block of time on the schedule to present many of these items which will all bear on Liveable Communities – except the current buzz phrase is “The Year of Community Living” based on the President’s proclamation. Fortunately, the City has a start in that little remarkable report from last year’s Neighborhood Conference.
I agree focusing on the Comp Plan is the right direction; once done, the Strat Plan can be redone based on a solid set of information.
