There’s a meeting of the Ad-hoc fire and rescue meeting tomorrow night. 5:30 in the second floor conference room.

Pretty decent article about the outcome of the meeting by Keith Walker. News & Messenger articles don’t usually cover that depth.

Growing pains are all part of the process. Great dialogue, great leadership.

Andy,
I hate to hijack the thread, maybe you should have a “open thread”.
Anyway the Supreme Court last week ruled in favor of the State of Arizona in how much money they need to spend on non English speaking students. There are now no excuses for giving the school board money for ESL classes.

Another good article about fire and rescue by Jennifer Buske in Sunday’s Washington Post’s Prince William Extra:

Have to agree with Cindy on the posting of the article links…as usual, “our hometown newspaper” editors whacked it down. The Post did a nice job.
While sitting there in the meeting that night, I was struck on how well Chief Wood organized his facts, the fine leadership of the Rescue Squad, and the loose arguements made by the Fire Company. Over the last 15 years of living in Manassas, I have supported both of those companies, but we grew and so should our F&R organization.
I invite anyone interested to read our City’s Charter in Article V, Section 30 as to how this City will have a Fire Department. Pretty clear on the legal issue of wrapping it all into one Division, with seperate entities. I passed over to Chief Wood a lot of thoughts, references and explanation.
Having once run with a Volunteer Fire Company in Pennsylvania, I can understand our VFC….but let’s look at what is best for our City and meets the growing needs of it!
