My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

The Eagles are at it again!

Quoth Tim Demeria:”I’ll give you an Interesting Tidbit……How ’bout them Osbourn Eagles!!?What a game last night in Haymarket. Our kids stood tall and won with 20 seconds left. Best Osbourn game I have seen next to the Salem game in 2006. And I have seen the vast majority of the games over the lifetime of the school system. Next weekend at 11-0 Woodbridge. I think it will be Saturday but I am not sure. Gonna be a real tough game but I know our kids are up to the task. “

The old saying it is hard to beat the same team twice in the same season not only applies to Battlefield but also to Woodbridge next week. The first Woodbridge game was a case of Osbourn giving up the big play, if the D can cut down on the big play they have a chance.

  2. It took true grit to come back late in a road playoff game against previously undefeated and highly ranked Battlefield. OHS!! Go Eagles!!

  3. Tim, I gotta agree about the game up in Haymarket. I am glad I was able to see that one. What a barn burner.

    Bring on Woodbridge……………………..

  4. Jackson,
I saw you down on the fence but when I got down there you were gone. Sorry I missed you. I hope lots of folks can make it to Woodbridge, the boys need all the support they can get. I am sure Andy will brave the cold and be there!!

    Andy,

The game is this Friday night at Woodbridge. Game time is 7:30.

  7. WHAT A GAME!! If you weren’t there you missed a great one. Osbourn out played woodbridge all night long. We gave them chances with some turnovers then smacked them right in the mouth. Our defense was stellar. Our offense was exciting and strong. We had some problems with special teams but our boys overcame that problem. And our fans kicked butt too. The visitor’s stands are much smaller but we had standing room only and the home team stands were less than half full. What a showing for a 7-4 team traveling to a 11-0 team. Hats off to the fans of the Eagles. I will need the week to recover but the team, the coaches and the fans will be ready for our state game at HOME! next Saturday.

  8. Tim, my voice is shot.

Andy, get a new post up on this game ASAP.

These kids played as a true team, but my game ball goes to C.J. Jackson. His final tackle of the game has to go down as the most impressive and important tackle in Osbourn football history.

For all you cupcakes that were to afraid of the cold to show up, ill fill you in. With only a couple minutes left on the clock Woodbridge got the ball inside of the ten yard line with a chance to take the lead. After 3 strong stops by the defense, Woodbridge had a 4th and short for a go-ahead touchdown.

Of course Woodbridge hands the ball to the best highschool running back in Virginia, Deantwan Williams. Williams runs straight ahead into the pile. I go crazy thinking we stuffed him up at the line. Williams suddenly spins out of the pile to his left and sprints to the endzone. (before I go any further let me tell you this kid Williams was an immpressive runner all night. Our kids swarmed him every time he got the ball but he broke away and stayed on his feet after many a good hit.) I go from crazy rabid fan to completely deflated in a nano-second when it appears that Williams is about to go in for the go-ahead touchdown with very little time left on the clock.

In steps C.J. Jackson. First of all he showed the good minded football discipline to stay in his position and not go flying into the pile at the line of scrimmage. Second, he sprints out and meets Williams FACE TO FACE / MANO E MANO. (From my perspective it still looks like a lost cause – one of the best HS running backs in the country against one lone cornerback both sprinting sideways along the endzone line. It seems all Williams needed to do was just dive forward and the game was over.) But Jackson was able to use leverage like that of a Judo Blackbelt. Jackson was able to get a good hold on Williams, spun him around, and slammed him to the ground saving the game.

From rabid crazed fan to completely deflated, back to crazed fan all within the time frame of about 4 seconds. AAHHH, the love of football.
