My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

ICE Update

For everyone that asks (and there are many of you), I spoke with the Chief this morning and he informs me that there are 110 (or so) offenders at the jail that have immigration detainers on them.  This may not seem like a lot but when one considers that about two weeks ago the number was 80 it is pretty amazing how fast the number is going up.  Some are first-time felons and some have several DUI’s and/or previous deportations on their records.  Thanks to our law-enforcement folks for working so hard on this.

Latino Festival

Manassas had a very well attended and successful event today.  Lots of great food and some pretty nifty cultural performances.  I got hit with a whip by someone dressed as the devil.  I haven’t figured that out yet.  Perhaps it is the Almighty trying to tell me something.  In any event, thanks to everyone who performed and attended the event.  Oh, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Councilmember Randolph for reading our Hispanic Heritage proclomation.
