There have been a good many interesting things said in the past 3 postings. I’ve generated some ideas but I’m interested in getting together with a couple of folks to kick it around again. This summit will focus directly on recent events and how we can focus our efforts to get things going again south of the tracks. The City did this before and it worked for a number of years but I think it needs a fresh set of leaders.
If you’re interested in getting together next Saturday for a couple of hours then email me: andy@harrover.com or post below. Only rules for this one is that you have to leave my house by 9:00…:) I’m looking for people who want to be involved in trying to come up with some solutions and to do some heavy lifting. This isn’t an official City meeting, just a meeting of interested folks. Space is limited to 5. If next Saturday won’t work, we’ll propose a new date….
UPDATE: I’ve heard from a number of people but there are still a couple of spots open. I would remind everyone that I’m looking for people who are interested in heavy lifting….

I’d be interested, except it would have to be an afternoon thing. I have a previous engagement in the evening.

Andy,
Same here. I can do late afternoon, or even another day.

Count me in, but preferable earlier in the day due to various holiday-related gatherings. Thanks for doing this.

I would like to take part, as long as there is a ground rule of civility and hot chocolate, in case it’s a cold parade.

It sounds like you have some great leadership there, Andy. I am sorry will miss it. I don’t think county people have much to add to the south of the tracks problem. I did go over there last week. I used to live at Colonial Village many years ago so seeing things made the problems more real to me, if that makes sense.

I will send you an e-mail Andy and suggest to you someone who is both a long-time resident of Georgetown South and also currently works in the school system.

Andy,
I received a letter from Mr. Hughes the City is planning a meeting to discuss the recent gang activity. Though, I doubt beer will be offered, it should still be a good chance to talk about the issue.

Great news, COM — I heard one of the speakers at citizen’s time, LIndy Bowie, make that suggestion when I watched the rebroadcast of Monday’s council meeting today. She also suggested some kind of citizen’s advisory committee to work with the police and the regional gang task force. That’s a good idea, too. There are at least five active neighborhood watches in the city. Maybe the coordinators of those watches could come together to provide input..

Andy,
Are you going to start a BLOG on Chief Wood’s resignation? Any thoughts?

I don’t typically comment on personnel matters – especially when someone resigns. Might be a little different when a longtime employee retires but that’s about as far as I’ll go.
