My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Facebook

I’ve gotten a few emails from people wanting to know why I unfriended them on Facebook.  Didn’t I like them anymore?  I like everyone just fine but I elected to delete my Facebook account.  Truth is that it was developing into a time-sink for me.  It was also becoming a tangle of politics, public policy discussion, fraternity brothers from 20 years ago and family.  I was spending as much time there answering emails about the same topics that are discussed  here.  I tried to steer people here with some success but it just wasn’t working for me….

So, yes, I still like everyone but I’m not going to mess with Facebook for awhile.  Maybe later.  What I am going to do is starting putting status stuff on twitter.  It’s a little less involved.

ahhhh, and just after I accepted your friend request.

Still, your reasons are valid in my mind. Having fooled with automation tools that were supposed to “increase productivity” or “enhance experiences” for three decades, all I find is sometimes it turns into more of a hassle.

  2. I think the problem you may encounter is through twitter, is how few people our age or older actually use it. I don’t, and have no plans to.

  3. The noise to signal level is WAY too high for me on FB. I see so many folks frittering away endless hours on inane games and interactions they would NEVER do “in person” to have any interest in wasting my time so.

I’ve dipped my toe in the Twitter waters. Even with my BlackBerry on my hip practically 24/7, I can’t begin to keep up. It was funny getting a follow request from the likes of Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich and such, but after a burst of activity when I first started I’ve now completely lost interest. I just don’t find I need to be THAT informed that EARLY in any process/news.

The whole reason I ended up on Facebook was to keep track of the neices, nephews, and their kids who are on it. With a scattered across the US family, nice to see the pictures and sometimes easier than writing letters 🙂

David, cant stand half the noise from some of my friends on facebook, so I being a bad boy just clicked I do not see their postings…LOL!

  5. Andy, you’re missing out. Great photos of you at the Mayor’s proclamation of November being Veterans’ Month on Facebook by Radio Fiesta.
