Wow, you can accuse the Cuccinelli of many things but being idle isn’t one of them. The WaPo just put this story up about a recent ruling of the AG’s office. It appears to enact rules somewhat similar to Arizona’s. I don’t suppose I have much of a problem with it (I supported 287g in Manassas) but I would like to have seen it done as considered legislative action and not by fiat. Don’t guess it matters much though….

Andy, agree it doesn’t matter if it was done as legislative action or in an Opinion…the fuel on the fire though will be the recent death of the Benedictine Sister and injury of two others this weekend.
Death related to an accident by a drunk driver is something that happens and cannot be avoided. That said, because the driver was an illegal, the burner will be turned up on the issue of illegals now, and maybe by now you have even gotten Del. Miller’s e-mail. I think even ICE will finally be a little more active since the story has gone National and Congressman Wolf is getting invovled.

Truly a shame it took the death of a nun on our local roads to get our elected officials to take notice. I’m no supporter of illegals, but this will now get fanned to a high flame and REALLY the fact that this person was here illegally and thus a criminal had nothing to do with her death. It could just as easily been a native drunk driver or native repeat offender drunk driver that killed her. Just something to think about as the hyperbole spins nationwide over the next several days on this.

David,
You are right it could have been someone else who hit her. But, it was an illegal, who was known to local and Fed law enforcement, and was still somehow able to gain release time after time.
When, was the last time you saw an elected official defend ” native” drunk driver?
Many crimes, should not happen, and many times when they do, there is an attempt to have laws changed and or passed in hope that it prevents future crimes. Take for example in recent years, laws against child molesters have gained a lot of attention thanks in part to a few high profile cases. So, it’s not just illegals who are getting picked on, but criminals in general who somehow have been able to slip through the cracks.
However, don’t worry, there are plenty of people just like who want to defend illegals and or down play the illegal alien aspect. I saw a report on the local cbs news tonight that attempted to paint the criminal in a sympathic light. Disgusting.

CoM,
I think perhaps you should re-read my comment, especially the beginning of the second sentence.
But regardless, Have to say your response to my comments is not at all un-suprising. My point was that unlike some who comment here, I do not see illegal alien boogeymen as the source of ALL ills in our nation.
The root cause of THIS drunk driving fatality if one takes your first paragraph as fact is the ridiculous catch and release and slap on the wrist penalizing of drunk driving offenders. The additional fact that he was in the country illegally is not truly a factor.
Granted, at first introduction to law enforcement, this person SHOULD have been discovered to be in this country illegally and IMMEDIATELY deported. To me, it’s bad enough that they are here illegally, but we simple can’t round them up and send them home en masse. However, why we let them back into the population when they are KNOWN to be here illegally continues to boggle the mind.

DavidB,
He is an illegal and does not belong here. That is the root cause of the crime. We have a Federal Government that does not want to enforce immigration law, and illegals know that, which cause millions more to come here every year. He simply should not have been here. So, stop making excuses for the guy. I do not see illegals as the main source of our ills either. But, I also do not make excuses for them.
I have seen over and over how people say they do not support illegals, and then give a long list of why we can’t deport them all, etc.
We can’t deport them all, but we can process them to become “legal” immigrants. Does that make sense to you?

By the logic you present his drunk driving and murder of the nun would have been somehow less heinous if he wasbt an illegal? That’s my point. I read every comment here and maybe its just me but it seems regardless of subject you seem to find a way to blame illegal immigration. And once again you distort my statements. I clearly stated he should have been deported when law enforcement first became aware of his immigration status. And its a shame that he wasn’t.
And no, you can tilt at that “deport them all” windmill sll you want, in this nation nd the political and fiscal realities what they are, that simply isn’t going to happen.

Davidb,
What about the illegal who raped the ten year old? I suppose that would have happened too without the illegal? Yes, I blame illegals when they commit crimes. Why not blame them?
illegal aliens have had a huge impact on our City and area. If we did not have illegals, we would not have had the “sign” issue. The school budget would be much smaller, meaning, more money for other services etc. We would not have nearly the overcrowding issue we had/have.
Of course there is no political will on the part of many of our elected officials, they support illegals. Put people in charge that want to deport illegals and it would surprise you how it can be done.
Look, we can’t stop all crimes and all criminals, but should we just give up on trying to stop crime? Of course not. So, why should we stop trying to remove illegals from the Country?
