As mentioned in this article in the MJM, bike thefts are on the increase. My mountain bike was stolen! I rode it over to a friends house and it was around the side of the house next to his car. We were in the front room shooting the breeze and drinking a glass of wine. His wife was working in the back yard right next to where it was parked and someone still stole it!
Don’t make the mistake that I stupidly made….lock your stuff up…

“shooting the breeze and drinking a glass of wine.”
Just as well that it was taken, you should not have gotten back on it after drinking anyway. 🙂

Hey! It was the middle of the afternoon and I had 1 glass!…:)

Since bikes are quckly becoming a primary mode of transportation for many folks, we as a society should elevate bike-theft to the same level crime as horse-theft was back in the day….with the same punishment. We used to hang horse thieves.

That’s bad when the vice mayor gets ripped off.
Neighborhood Watch. To start one, call Officer Scott Stallard, Manassas City Police Dept, 703-257-8179 or sstallard@ci.manassas.va.us.
The training shows everything you can do to keep your family, home and stuff safe, and how to look out for your neighbors, too.
Sorry about your bike.

Its might fault, you pink bike with the purple streamers was appealing to me, I couldn’t help myself 🙂
Nah, really that sucks! I hope they recover it.

Oops meant it’s my fault.

I gotta agree with all – it stinks, and agree with Steve it should be on the same level as stealing a horse!
Real shame of it all is, our MCPD put out a real great press release back on July 12th about rise in bike thefts (link below). You think our local fishwrap would put it in – even as front page??? Nope.

ok, ok…before anyone jumps – it did get a blurb in the local fishwrap.
Would have made a better front page story in my thinking. 🙂
Maybe now with it being the Vice Mayor, it wil?????

My daughter Jennifer is back in town this
weekend for the 20th reunion of the OHS
class of 1990 (Warren ’88 had his several
years ago). Her class included the first
students to go all the way through the
Manassas City Public School system, K-12.
Andy, sorry about your missing wheels.
Maybe if we raise our compensation to
match Bell, Calif. councilmembers, you
could buy some nice back-up bikes.
Stay cool everyone – it is suppose to top
100 today!

Not likely Ray…:)

Nothing safe in this town. Had my car broken into on St Pats day 2009 on West St. in front of your office. Forgot to lock it up. Lost my sunglasses and a camera. Fortunately the camera was found by a visitor and he took the time to review the photos and reach Michelle through a work picture.
Lock it up needs to be a habit even in a “safe” area.
