Well, the mighty election of 2010 is over. I would like to thank my wife, who worked tirelessly over the last 24 hours as well as all of my volunteers. My face has a proper sunburn and I’m beat. A few observations before I crash:
1. I don’t know what to make of the Council election other than it didn’t seem to matter much to most folks. The difference in votes between the three council members was 21. Marc came in first, I was 5 votes behind him and Randolph was 21 votes behind him. With roughly 1200 votes cast, that’s a dead heat. I know Marc invested some work in the campaign and I put out signs and a mailer and the election was that close. I have trouble drawing any other conclusion than it didn’t matter much and that the real driver was the School Board election. Confusing.
2. Pam came in first in the School Board election. I went door-knocking with Pam and saw how hard she was working. I would have been surprised if she failed in her bid for the SB. I’ve known her for a long time so congratulations are in order!
3. Sanford Williams performed very well. He seemed to have good support from the school folks and did ok.
4. My buddy Tim go himself re-elected to the SB. I’m proud of Tim. The guy bleeds blue and grey and I’m always happy to work with him. He’s a true believer.
I’m glad to serve another term on City Council and hope that the next 4 years bring better economic times than the last 4.
I’m going to bed.

Andy,
The guy also bleeds our hard earned tax dollars too. By extension, I guess that means you also support the wasting of millions of our dollars.
Is it any wonder Old Town is looking more and more like an old Western ghost town?

Good luck, Andy. Thanks for stepping up again. I look forwarding to helping you move ahead without distractions.

How much door-knocking and whatever did Randolph put in? I didn’t see any of his signs but the margin was narrow.

Margin Sue? The 3 who ran were running for 3 spots. They all 3 won seats as they were essentially unopposed. Amazing the Democrats can’t even put up ONE viable candidate.

Congrats Andy!

Wide margin? Bigger margin between those who voted for School Board than those who voted for City Council. Some 500 folks walked in and voted for School, and like Andy said, figured the Council race did not matter so cast no vote. Of course, it looks like only a bit over 10% of active voters showed up anyway.
I kinda like the low turn out in a way – gives me a chance when people complain about City Hall and the School Board that they had their chance.
Now when it comes to Mr. Randolph and no signs…LOL…well, as I am found of saying about Steve, just look around this City at all the new governmental buildings of the last two decades and you will see his name on the dedications.
Now let us see if the Tim and his two new Board members can actually get a CIP that is (a) first published on the web for residents to see and comment on; and (b) actually focus on stabilizing a CIP so that Baldwin might actually be targeted as being replaced way, way, way before that Board talks about any new buildings.
By the way, Andy….looks like there were 42 more writein votes than the 20 expected, eh? 🙂

Right you are Ray! I got that 20 number from one of the election folks. 62 write-ins does seem like alot to me…

And the highest % vote total in this
election was Jack Magee with 98.9%!
He ran unopposed to win the final
two year’s of an unexpired school board
term.

Another election observation is that only
8.7% of those registered in the City of
Manassas voted on May 4, 2010.

And another election observation:
I am always fascinated when looking at the Commonwealth’s Election Board breakouts that Dean Precinct consistently has the highest number of voters each time.
Every election. Gives a pause in wondering why when I sit and actually think politically.
