I’ve been riding a fair amount for over a year now but had never really tried to adjust the bike at all – the positioning of the seat or handlebars, etc. I don’t know why but it never seemed like it would be terribly useful. Further, I cut my biking teeth in a spin class and spin bikes are all about adjustments. It doesn’t make any sense! Maybe I’m a dope.
In any event, I’ve been using the trainer everyday and my knees were really starting to hurt! This is at least somewhat strange because street riding only ever made my thighs and rear-end sore. Both because (no doubt) I’m too fat! I saw over on Fatty’s blog a mention that a seat adjustment had helped someone and my dad made an adjustment to his seat that helped his knees so I decided to give it a whirl.
The results have been tremendous and immediate. I moved the seat back 1.5 inches and my knees no longer hurt. I think the move put the knee over the ankle when the most power is applied. The other change I have fiddled with on the road bike is to try moving the seat post up and down a bit. That’s a dicier adjustment as you can’t go too low or it robs power from your stroke but the lower the seat, the less stress there is on my back.

This post has nothing to do with your biking…however…I’m glad you were able to make adjustments to the seat to help your knees.
I’m sad. I’m sad for many reasons. I’ve lived in Manassas since birth and I’ve seen A LOT of changes in the 40+ years. But none saddens me more than losing the community comradery Manassas once had.
For those of you who ask “what are you talking about”?…because you have NOT enjoyed living in the same place all of your life…I’m talking about the days WAY BACK WHEN, the fire department and the rescue squad WERE the center of Manassas. When the “whistle blew” and locals raced to the fire house. You always knew when it was noon because the whistle blew. You were proud of your family and friends because they were volunteers for the fire department or rescue squad.
You went to the two locations to support not only our volunteers but to support the WONDERFUL deeds these fine folks did for our community. They had bingo, steak dinners, mock rescue sessions that the community came out to watch and they supported the local high school during football games, just to mention a few.
We knew who these folks were, if there was a need, when they showed up at your house. They worked hand n hand with the local police department as well, as some of the officers were Volunteers in the MANASSAS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT or MANASSAS VOLUNTEER RESCUE.
I will FOREVER miss my “old home town”. I miss the comradery that we once shared. Next thing to go will probably be the Manassas Christmas Parade, one of our last “traditions” here in MCity!
Less Government…More people!!!!!
