My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Help Save Manassas

Help save Manassas indeed. I was tied up in a Historic Resources meeting last night so I didn’t make the HSM meeting but I hear that it was well attended. I’m glad for this and here’s why: At the height of the crack epidemic we had terrible problems in GeorgeTown South (GTS). The council decided to take back that community from the criminals and discovered a crucial lesson: despite a lot of tough talk, Government has limited efficacy in such situations unless the citizens are involved. This is the light that I view HSM in.

Although overcrowding complaints have dropped, there are still siginificant problems in Manassas. The City Council has moved pretty quickly to shift to proactive zoning enforcement and the creation of a street crimes unit but unless people are willing to pitch in, government will never be able to do it all. When I say “pitch in” I am not minimizing their efforts to a clean up detail either. It is my belief that government works best when it has more input from citizens instead of less. Surely there is an element of “elbow grease” that could go a long ways but input; ideas, discussion and the sharing of information are even more important.

It is my hope that HSM will provide this conduit for citizen input, a forum for new ideas and practical two-way discussions that will help the government respond to problems that we all face.

  1. Andy,

I would have to say the first meeting exceeded all of our expectations. Over 100 citizens attended, although I would estimate about ten our so were there to do opposition research. I engaged one person in the foyer, after the meeting, and he was joined by another. Basically, they were calling HSM a racist organization which will target Hispanics primarily. I responded that we will target all illegal aliens equally, and will not discriminate between Canadians and Mexicans. Oh, I might mention that neither of these two live in Manassas, or Greater Manassas. However, after our first public meeting, HSM has about 60 members. Word will spread, and the membership will grow.

I think we have a very good leadership to start with. Greg L. as President and Mike Austin as Vice President, supported by a strong Executive Board, will do this the right way. I think the other side, the Unitiy in the Community, BRUU Social Justice Committee, and the Woodbridge Workers are concerned. Now there is a citizens group advocating for enforcing the law. The fatal flaw of the open-borders pro-illegal group’s argument is the inconvenient truth that those they seek to advocate for, are breaking the laws of the United States.

I have read all of the articles and cannot find a contact number for the HSM. Illegal imigration feels more like invasion to me. I would love to attend your next meeting and possibly support your group.

  3. I’m not in charge of HSM or even a member.  I missed the membership meeting due to a schedule conflict.  Greg is the president. You can contact him over at http://www.bvbl.net or admin@bvbl.net.

  4. Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! bcfvadayzep

  5. The City of Manassas faces a huge legal battle in the near future because of the Housing Ordinance disaster of two years ago. The Dept. of Justice, ACLU, Natioal Fair Housing Alliance and others are preparing law suites as we speake. If you think this issue will go away, think again. I have attended all of the HSM meeting thus far and so have peole from the afore mentioned groups. They have been quietly standing in the back of the Council chambers tape recording a video taping the presentations. HSM has an agenda. Compromise and open discussion don’t seem to be a part of their ppurpose. Their voice is loud and constant, but you must keep in mind that after recruting for over five months in and around the City of Manassas, a city of some 40,000, they have fewer than 400 members. Not to say that don’t have some good points. There are illegals in Manassas. But how many? Where do they live? Eight people living in a house does not automaticly mean they are illegal. If you blindly buy into their retoric, every Hispanic is illegal. I dought if any of the members of HSM can show you with 100% accuracy every illegal in this town. Remember, if you target a specific group based on race, religion economic background or nationallity, you are guilty of discrimination. Ask the City Council or any lawyer you know. If you enact Ordinances that specificaaly target a particular ethnic group or use similiar language in any official documents, The City could very well find itself back in court again. The problem of illegals in the community must be delt with at its most vunerable and effective source. If there are no jobs for these people, they won’t be around for very long. American companies are hiring these illegals for lower than standard wages and making a big profit for themselves(Americans have taught the world all about GREED). This is where HSM can help. Identify these contractors and expose them for violating Federal law. Stay clear of the kind of retoric that can get everyone in trouble. Afterall, HSM is not incorporated as a TAX EXEMPT PAC. This means that a law suite against HSM is a law suite against all the members of HSM. I would hate to see honest concerned citizens loose much of what they have worked their entire life for because of the rash actions of a single person.

  6. I luv Uhmereekah. And I luv amnesty. Let us stay and we weeel send all our money back home. i

  7. I think we need to rise up as a community and so enough is enough,,I actually pay for both my 9yr old and my 3 yrold to go to private school becasue I dont want them to suffer from the OVERWHELMING amount of border jumpers entering our public schools and sucking the resources of our local government dry..In other words my wife (the first grade teacher) has to spend more time in her classroom trying to help the illegal ninos and ninas learn how to speak english so they can understand the cirriculum..not that it shouldnt be done ,,but you cannot imagine the scale that we are discussing here….The system was not designed to handle the amount of children it is talking in,,and thats just schools,,,we arent even talking about money for housing assistance,,given by social services over 75000 in Prince william alone….then we get to food stamps (ebt) then go to medical care,,,,we are rotting from the inside out,,,,listen the English came here over 400 yrs ago and flourished as a civilization,,,look at the central american countries,,,I mean 4000 years,,,how long does it take to get you act together?? I say its game on and as far as only havin 400 members,,that was four months ago,,,take a look at the numbers now and watch them rise up,,as we should as a people! please help save VIRGINIA ,,thats the actual group!!

  8. Why is it that the apologists for the illegals refuse to distinguish between illegal and legal immigration? They continue to refer to groups like HSM as being ?anti-immigrant”? How disingenuous is that?

Another question is why does the PWC Human Rights Commission continue to allow illegals to make demands on them? Why are they not arrested and deported?

  9. It’s very simple. You don’t have to target a specific ethnic group. And you don’t have to target businesses. Either people have legal documents to be in this country, or they get them, or they get deported.

I have watched my neighborhood in Yorkshire on Rt. 28 become 50% hispanic in the last 5 years. My next door neighbors have 3 in their house and that’s OK. It’s the houses with 8-10 people. It’s the 7-11’s with 15 hispanic men waiting for work. It’s Parkside MS, where my son goes to school, with it’s aforementioned drain on teachers time, AND it’s the fact that illegal aliens are draining the county’s service money.

Any child born in the US is entiltled to education, BUT the schools need to check the parents’ paperwork to see if they are legal.

Any police officer should be able to check someon’es legal status for any reason.

Anyone renting or selling a house should be required to check EVERYONE on the lease or mortgages’ legal status.

And every business should check legal status before hiring.

The Board of Supervisors is moving us in the right directin.

They do need to proceed cautiously, but also aggresively.

The “Mexicans without Borders Boycott” didn’t accomplish a thing. The hispanic community is noticeably less visible since the board got more serious about their attempt to run roughshod over the rule of law in our town.

Keep up the good work. This is not a rasict argument. It’s a legal argument.

Illegals have to play by the same rules as everyone else, or go home.

We are human beings, too. And we want our community back.

  10. I want free medicaid too…I have two children that were born here as well,,why is it that illegal aliens are entitiled to this hugely expensive burden on myself for free? Also,,a side note,,in 1860 we immigrated over 3 million chinese workers to help build the first great engineering feat of its kind-The trans continental railroad,,but when they went into a local store every item was not labeled in chinese was it? Its getting out of hand,When in ROME you do as the ROMANS do,,,,learn the language OBEY the laws and be productive members of society.NOt the opposite..drain the systems resources, commit crimes, get deported and keep coming back to break more laws…under the assumtion that “you just want to wrok and raise your family and be left alone” If that were the case then you wouldnt fly your El Salvordorian flags and be trying to stake your claim and have your voices heard…Dont go awayt mad,,just go away.
    HSM ROCKS!

  11. I have lovely grandchildren that need to attend college. Why do their parent have to work two jobs many many hours to earn the finances that keep four children goinging????Why aren’t taxpayers that have been here for generations given free health, education, etc. Why don’t we deserve to be ahead of illegals in line???Who is watching out for us????What is going on at the federal level? Do they think at the local level we are the ones dealing with this crises????

  12. Two new studies show why some people are more attractive for members of the opposite sex than others.

The University of Florida, Florida State University found that physically attractive people almost instantly attract the attention of the interlocutor, sobesednitsy with them, literally, it is difficult to make eye. This conclusion was reached by a series of psychological experiments, which were determined by the people who believe in sending the first seconds after the acquaintance. Here, a curious feature: single, unmarried experimental preferred to look at the guys, beauty opposite sex, and family, people most often by representatives of their sex.

The authors believe that this feature developed a behavior as a result of the evolution: a man trying to find a decent pair to acquire offspring. If this is resolved, he wondered potential rivals. Detailed information about this magazine will be published Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

In turn, a joint study of the Rockefeller University, Rockefeller University and Duke University, Duke University in North Carolina revealed that women are perceived differently by men smell. During experiments studied the perception of women one of the ingredients of male pheromone-androstenona smell, which is contained in urine or sweat.

The results were startling: women are part of this repugnant odor, and the other part is very attractive, resembling the smell of vanilla, and the third group have not felt any smell. The authors argue that the reason is that the differences in the receptor responsible for the olfactory system, from different people are different.

It has long been proven that mammals (including human) odor is one way of attracting the attention of representatives of the opposite sex. A detailed article about the journal Nature will publish.

  13. It’s loads of fun. I do wish people would just leave comments so we can all have fun together! I simply have got to find a way for them to speak up! =)
