My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Updates & The Federal Budget

Well, the great weight-loss charge has somewhat screeched to a halt.  I'm in maintenance mode for another couple of days.  One of the medications I'm taking, Metformin has an unfortunate side effect – it trashes my stomach if I don't eat something along with it.  Doesn't have to be a ton of food but a slice of lunch meat isn't going to get it done.  It just takes awhile to get used to it again and then it'll be fine.  Blood sugar continues to be much more constrained.  Ankle is stabilizing but I'm well past the age where I jog in the frigging freezing cold!  Going to start on the bike trainer soon.  Maybe tonight or tomorrow.  The duration and intensity of that will depend on how the ankle holds up.  I'll keep you posted.

The feds have a budget deal!  The skeptic in me says that the Congress critters wanted to get home for Christmas.  The good-government guy in me says yay!  Those idiots are finally working together.  The republican in me is miffed that the cuts were rolled back.  However, I don't think the Republican leadership really had much choice in the amtter.  The circus surrounding the last budget "deal" was so consuming that something small had to happen.  I'm not sure what Boehner thought he was going to accomplish by peeing on the shoes of the Tea party but what's done is done.  We have a deal and Congress has avoided driving the economy into the ditch…again.  We'll see what happens next year.

  1. Andy,
The conservative in me (I use that term as I think the Republicans spend to much money) agrees with your assessment that this "compromise" was  real stab at the Tea Party. As I've stated before, the Tea Party is a direct result of the Republicans spending to much money. This new compromise" is again smoke & mirrors. We have a 2 year budget but the"balance" in this plan is achieved by financing the 2 years of spending over a 10 year period. In my opinion, that is not a balanced budget. I haven't seen a "Washington Post Pinocchio Scale" on the new budget such as the current  Presidents 4 Pinocchio's with respect to "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, period" or "if you like your policy, you can keep your policy, period" comments. Here is my question……………Is it OK to lie to the voters (either Dems or Pubs), if you think what you are doing is for the good of the country? Is it OK to do this on a local level (I'm not saying this is happening, I'm just asking the question"? I have my thoughts but I'm interested in what others think.
