The Council will have two worksessions this week on our Strategic plan and two on CIP. I'll be at Simply Sweet on Main Thursday if anyone wants to talk about it. 7:30.

the next two nights are out by my schedule….hopefully if there are any changes to the SP, the update hits the page the City Manager has. I wrote this before, and I'll write again, I can understand the urgency to pass the SP, but to have two Council Work Sessions, then leaving only two business days before Council approval is not exactly the idea of having "citizen comment" (as mentioned way, way back in October). Especially true since City Staff met and went over it, and no idea of what is headed to Council since Agenda is a one-pager.
On another note: an suggested idea – since the worksessions in the Public Works and Second Floor Conference Rooms cannot be broadcasted, maybe set up a recorder so and MP3 type file could be posted on the media page. At least that way, citizens can hear the discussion if they cannot attend. Cheap and easy to do!

The University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center relently released its
2012 annual population estimates for Virginia and its localities.
From the 2010 census to July 1, 2012 the City of Manassas grew
from 37,821 to 39,902 which gave it the highest percentage growth 5.5%
of any Virginia city over 8,000.
Virginia Town & City magazine notes the trend in Manassas reflects "long lasting
influences of the recession on housing markets and the doubling-up of
families in households to help make ends meet during a down economy".
An economic challenge for Manassas officials is population growing far faster
than new housing (property taxes are a primary source of revenue).
We must provide for 2,081 new residents without matching new fiscal resources.
