My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Oh Yeah!!

After overcoming a rough first quarter and some shaky officiating, the Eagles beat up Varina pretty good:  47-21.  We went down 0-14 early but Osbourn just never gives up and we were tied at the end of the first half.  2 quick scores at the beginning of the 3rd set us on the path to win.  I am enormously proud of our Eagles and congratulate them on having the grit to come back from 14 down to win.  Unless I’m mistaken, this is the third undefeated opponent to fall to the Eagles in as many weeks.  Awesome.

Oscar Smith, I believe is the next victim, and they are also undeafeted for now….

  2. Andy,
they got a cheap late touchdown to make it 47-28. Just like the Woodbridge game I feel we beat them worse than the score indicates. This team has more heart and desire than any team I have ever seen. Ever! And yes the 3 teams we played so far in the playoffs were all undefeated. I believe their combined record is now 35 and OSBOURN!!

    Blacksburg here we come!

  3. COM, where is Oscar Smith from? I have the Christmas parade next saturday so I cant make the game in Blacksburg.

I would love it if VHSL moved the game (like they did in 2006) to better suit the geography of the attending teams. That way I could drive to the game as soon as the parade is over.

BTW my voice is spent again……. What a great game…..

  4. Jackson,
Oscar Smith is from Chesapeake so Richmond would be a great place to have the game. I have been informed, however, that the contract with Tech is binding and that the fee would have to be paid there even if the game is moved so I think it is a done deal. I think it would be great for our kids to perform (band, cheerleaders and football players) in the big stadium, but from the other high school games I have gone to in a large stadium, it will feel empty. Our last championship game at Freedom was packed, a great atmosphere. If that game had been at Tech the feeling would have been much different, the cheers would have echoed because of the empty seats. It is too bad the parade falls on game day, it happened two years ago as well. I am happy to say this is going to become habitual. The game is slated to start at 4:07PM, if you are in the parade use your pull and be in the front. You will be done sometime around noon and then drive like hell and get to the game. If you are watching it with the kids stand in front of the bowling alley, soon as Santa passes, hit the road. I will save you a seat, oh wait, it’s at Tech, there will be tens of thousands of seats left. By the way, this trip is going to cost the Athletic Department a bunch of money, the trip to Salem two years ago was in the $8,500 range and this is sure to be more. Sue and I will be making a modest donation, if anyone else feels the inclination to donate please contact Coach Gryder at the school. I am sure any and all donations will be appreciated. If you see Coach Shultze give him a hug because this whole thing is due to him and his incredible coaching staff.

  5. ohseagles.com for a ton of pictures taken by Ken Campbell.

  6. Tim, thanks for the info. I am in the parade so I will play it by ear.
I was at the freedom game also, and yes it was great. I thought that VHSL broke the contract that year also. Because both teams were from NOVA, they moved it up to NOVA

That year worked perfectly, it was easy to go to the game right after the parade was over.

I think having the championship game at a neutral stadium takes away part of the heritage and innocence of high school football. Why should Va Tech or any other venue besides the two teams playing in the game benefit from the game? Our city could use the revenue of people coming to watch the game here, and likewise for Oscar Smith.

  8. Looking forward to adding another line on the water tower in
    Old Town Manassas.

    Go Eagles!

  9. Your right Jackson they did get out of the contract in ’06 but I was told that was a less binding contract than the one with Tech. UVA would have been a better site as well but I guess last year UVA had so many additions to the base contract price that the total nearly doubled so the VHSL went with the less expensive Tech.

  10. It sounds like you’re creating issues yourself by trying to unravel this concern as a substitute of taking a look at why their is an issue in the first place.
