On Monday the Council approved the first reading of the ordinance that enacts the Employee Housing program. It sets aside a pool of money to help City employees make down payments on bank-owned or foreclosed properties in the City. There are conditions (if they leave our employ they have to pay us back) and restrictions on the program but it’s reasonable and will hopefully get more employees in the City and get more bank-owned properties in the hands of home-owners. The program is administered by the Manassas Housing Trust Fund who administers the existing program that is available to all City residents.
This is an important piece of Manassas Next and I’m glad the staff worked it through to completion and the Council approved it. WaPo article is here.

Good move. Likely to get some houses off the market; help city employees; keep city employees connected to the city (other than solely through their jobs); Manassas next has momentum. Good job by the Council.

Good job leading the way, Andy. I was glad to see another City police officer move into our neighborhood this summer. And I like seeing the city government work with citizens to revitalize neighborhoods.

This is good. Anything that helps relieve the glut of bank owned properties on the market will be good for ALL of Manassas.

Perhaps Manassas Next should include a request for a better
hometown newspaper. How in the world could the MJM publish a
headline in today’s paper that “Culpeper hammers Osbourn”
when OHS DEFEATED CULPEPER 61-14? AND also reverse the
score in their summary at the top of the front page? Mistakes
happen, but this is outlandish – it is obvious they didn’t even
read their own story.
Congratulations to the Osbourn Eagle football team, but a big
wag of the finger to the MJM.
