My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Coffee & Open Thread

We’ll do coffee on Friday at 7:30 – Simply Sweet on Main.  I know many will be outta town but if you’re around, stop by.  If it’s just me, that’s cool.  I’ll eat breakfast…:)  We’ll talk Education Forward, budget, whatever.

Also, Open Thread!  Have at it.

  1. I’ll be there.

  2. As Captain Renault would say, round up the usual suspects.

  3. Maybe Matt in true spirit of the Holidays could serve up Hot Toddys.

  4. Open Comment Item: VA Association of Counties (VaCO) has released a spreadsheet showing the impact of the Governor’s Proposed Budget on Education. The governor’s proposal reduces funding by $130 million in FY 2013 by eliminating (1) non-personal support cost inflation factors, (2) updating the federal deduct to include 59.2 percent of ARRA SFSF and (3) removing support for COCA (cost of competing). The FY 2013 estimated distribution represents a 3.5 percent change from FY 2012 and is inclusive of the state share of VRS funding, changes to retiree healthcare credit and group life and other changes reflected in the triennial census and rebenchmarking. The spreadsheet is at the link below and you will note Manassas gets a plus-up:

  5. Enjoyed the coffee and conversation at Simply Sweet on Main this morning. Didn’t realize it’s been tagged in the Washington Post.

Rich’s 1. Attendance, 2. Behavior and 3. Smaller classrooms works for me.

  6. Didn’t see anything about it on WaPo. Where is it?

  7. Andy, it is the article I brought in with the Lt. Gov. walking in…the one Matt is going to frame and put on the wall. I gave him my copy as he wants to pass it to his parents 🙂

  8. School Revenue Sharing Agreement: Thanks, Andy for steering me to search Finance Committee meetings. Everything you wanted to know about the agreement can be found at the link below.

It was Item #8 from the July 27, 2011, FC Meeting. Labeled as “Page 79”; however, once you open the PDF, you will find it on Page 81…and runs through the rest of the pages as it was the last item on Agenda. Enjoy!

  9. Merry Christmas to the Blog Master and to those who cruise, view, and comment!!!!!

  10. My older boy who’s thirty and lives in Reston came over late morning with his fiance. We roasted chestnuts, toasted with prosecco and exchanged gifts since they’re flying to Dallas tomorrow for a few days. Just took some bread out of the oven (after a twenty hour rise) to bring to across-the-street-neighbors when we join them for cocktails and meet their daughter’s fiance at 5 this afternoon. Spoon bread (ancient recipe — with bacon dripings!) now in the oven for when we join friends for dinner thereafter. Along with Christmas Day my younger son’s birthday is also tomorrow. Will start the day with french toast made with pannetone (I mean, why not?). Will see mom (94) tomorrow too. And amidst all the fun with family and friends, let’s take time to remember, all year, what Christmas is really about. Regards to all.
