My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

HOA Meetings

I attended a HOA meeting last night in Georgetown South and tonight at Battery Heights (sp).  Interesting feedback from both groups.  Very diffrent issues in both areas.  Not surprising since different parts of the City have different issues.  I learned a lot from the people there.  As both were a somewhat small subset of all the residents, they may or may not have been representative of all the citizens but I had a good discussion that went on for quite some time.  GTS faces some challenges but the citizens that I talked to seemed determined to set their neighborhood right so I’m optimistic.  It’s great to see people involved in their community.  I’m also determined that the City Government will do our part to help.  I like these meetings but I do wish that more of the after-meeting discussion didn’t happen in a freezing cold parking lot….:)

If you have a HOA or neighborhood meeting you want to attend, drop me a line.

  1. It is high time that the council start focusing on HOAs.
    1) The Feds have apparently decided to throw responsibility for
    health care to the states.
    2) Our old GA has raised the ante, by pushing more transportation
cost to local government AND slicing away at local revenue
sources – they make thin promises of keeping cities “whole”
which, of course, often turn out to be a lie (ex: car tax).
    3) Which gets us back to the HOAs. Perhaps council can make them
responsible for schools – or at least public safety. Then,
like the hypocrites in Richmond, you guys can howl
and snarl when they even suggest raising fees.

You local folks need to learn to play the”Gotcha Game”!
It apparently is the rage in Washington and Richmond.

I have a somewhat less pleasant name that I give to this game but it is, in short, the height of political gamesmanship. Many issues and problems that face legislative bodies can be massaged and made more acceptable but when the time comes for a hard decision, it seems that the fad these days is to skip the decision and ignore the reason for your presense.

As to the Council focusing on HOA’s, I’m with ya and we’re doing it.

  3. I commend you for attending HOA meetings. You are a dedicated public servant. Over here in Prince William our Supervisors are staying pretty close to the McCoart building now that the FBI has expanded their investigation of Loudoun County land scams into Prince William looking at first, alledged conflicts or interest and undue influence of nonprofits and certain planning commissoners.
