So, it’s the middle of November and the Republican convention is coming up! The convention has normally been on or about the last week of January. I don’t know what the exact date will be but whenever it is, it’s coming! I’ve not heard from anyone other than Jon Way (who didn’t contact me but judging from his website and bumper stickers it seems like he’s running) about their intention to run.
For whatever it’s worth, I would be surprised if there isn’t at least one social/far right/conservative guy/gal who runs. There does appear to be further appetite in some quarters for further budget cuts beyond the 15% we’ve already cut. At bottom, the budget cutting debate revolves more around what kind of place you want to live in.
I have heard rumblings that there is a new Democrat who wants to run and I did meet a guy at a City meeting who was interested in running as an independant. I can’t remember his name and don’t know if he’s still in it. In any event, it looks like it will be a contested election this time around.

Jerry Carman is interested in running as an Independent.

Republican Convention is January 28, 2012 – last Saturday in January. I know since Jon came knocking on the door to hand out information for wife and son to have them attend. Told him Barbara’s Rule is to support the canditate with the best donuts!

Darn! I was hoping it would be in Febuary this year, the 28th is my birthday and as much as I love politics…..

Tony proposed a later date initially but if this is to be a contested race I think a Feb. date is too late. When I ran the first time I knocked on doors for about 8 weeks to get through the entire list I generated. I really didn’t know what I was doing and would have loved extra time. If we actually have some of the challengers that I’m hearing about then extra time would be good.

I looked at Jerry Carman’s website. His views seem very in line with the Republican Party. Thus he should be running as a Republican. In my opinion the only reason he is not running as a Republican is to avoid a convention vote, a calculated political play by him, not apolitical as his website seems to suggest.
Some folks are referred to as RINOs. He seems to be more of an NARC (Not Adopting Republican identity out of political Convenience). Again, just my view as a private citizen. He can speak up as he wishes.

There has not been a Democrat on the Manassas Council for
over thirty years and only one Independent for the past sixteen.
Republicans have had a operating majority (at least four of
the six council seats) for over two decades. A big question is
which wing of the local GOP prevails in the January Convention,
moderate center-right or far right? It has swung both ways in the
recent past.

Steve, as long as none of them are running with a Social Agenda, may the more true-by-definition fiscal conservative types (as I described last year in the budget hearings) prevail. We do not need anymore Social Agenda Councilmembers….

Looking for candidate websites…so far only John and Jerry. Someone does appear to have registered harrover4mayor.com tho. Mr. Harrover do you have an announcement?

No. I don’t have an announcement. At least not now…:)
