My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Vice President

Well, I haven’t posted in ages and I’m home sick.  I ended up in the hospital last night with a high fever but the docs seemed to think it’s just a viral bug.  So I’m feeling lousy and laying around today.  I’m going to post some interesting stuff in the next few days but since I am at home and forced to watch endless coverage of the last two primaries.  The R’s have got to start making some of their own news soon.  Anyway, the latest that I see on MSNBC is that Hillary says that she’s available to be VP.  I think Obama would be crazy to pick her but I suppose stranger things have happened.  Does anyone out there have a guess as to either VP choice?

  1. My thought? Mr. Obama should move on and select a VP candidate that is more in line with his goals and hasn’t been bloodied by this drawn out process. So….did Mr. Edwards get out at “just the right time” to now be ideally positioned for VP? He’s far more the “populist” than is Ms. Clinton.

Andy, hope you feel better soon. We have a Land Use and Economic
Dev. meeting tomorrow and really need your input. But “viral bug”?
Golly, maybe you wouldn’t mind sitting at the other end of the table?

Think “Hill” missed her golden chance last night, Obama seized his
and John McCain, bless his soul, doesn’t speak in public much better
than I do. Message to Senator Clinton – narcissism is a congenital
defect among politicians and, unless treated, it can cripple.

A gracious concession and rally around OUR candidate speech
last night by Hillary would have helped both of them.
    – Obama could pivot at once to the national campaign with
at least some critical support from the Clinton wing.
    – Hillary stock would have shot up – in the Senate as a national
leader and a presidential hopefull in the future. Now, if Obama,
doesn’t win – she will get part of the blame.
    – And, after last night, even if Barack selects Hillary as VP, he will
be seen as weak by some. If he isn’t able to stand up to her, how can
he manage the Chinese, Iranians, etc.?

Stay tuned. AND get well PDQ!

  4. Yes, we all want A to get well soon and so we choose to keep him entertained here.

It’s quite clear that O and John will do lots of polling and then pick veep mates that polling results suggest will bring the most votes to the ticket. Period. The rest is dross.

“Like” (as in “do they like each other?”) is irrelevant. Ike didn’t like Dick, JFK didn’t like Lyndon, Dutch didn’t like George H (a la voodoo economics). They don’t even think in terms of like. It’s not dating.

If O picks H, it’s because he believes she will add the most votes to the ticket. Those who assert this will make O look weak are (for the most part but not all, and excluding Steve)) unlikely to support O no matter who he chooses.

In any event both O and John are likely to do a kubuki dance before either announces a veep choice. John will wait until O decides; O must decide first because I believe the D’s convention is first (someone fact check that).

Assuming O must decide first, O can decide whenever he wants to. If he waits, then John waits too. But then John looks like he chose someone solely based on who O picked, which then makes John look weaker.

Interesting (yet my thoughts are admittedly quite irrelevant).

This article seems like reason enough for Obama to ignore Clinton as a running mate…too much baggage, STILL…

  6. Speaking of adding votes to tickets, you have to wonder how much of THIS goes on elsewhere around our nation (or city)?
