So, we had a meeting a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been underwater ever since. We kicked it around for an hour or so and came up with the following areas of interest. We need people to volunteer to work on these different areas:
1. An organized event next year – a 50 mile ride that has a fair amount of organization around it. We need a logo, name, a charity to benefit (if that’s what we want) and a distance. We’ll work with all parties but need someone to champion this ride.
2. Policy maven: we need someone to help bring City staff, members and public along on the bicycling front. We don’t want to rip up the roads but we do want to stop the erosion of routes that are friendly to cyclists.
3. Bike plan revision: we need people who are willing to work with others to revise the bike plan. The existing plan is a great start but things change and we need to update our plan.
4. An organized, weekly, ride. Bull Run Bikes actually has a weekly shop ride so we can just tag along on their ride and, over time, expand it to address other intersted parties.
Post below if you’re interested.
We’ll have another meeting in a couple of weeks. Watch facebook
UPDATE: here is a link to the 2007 bike plan (it’s big, be patient)

May I suggest posting the Bike Plan? Most people would have no idea where to find it on the City website. Thanks!

Andy, I’m not (at least not any more) a cyclist as you know. But I’m glad you are doing this. Whether you are involved here as Vice Major or merely as an avid cyclist serving as a catalyst to make things happen, go for it. And watch out for those garbage trucks.

I’d like to help either on policy, or revising the bike plan. I think it important to have some “Bike People” involved in writing the actual plan.
