Chamber of Commerce Event

I wasn’t going to mention this as I don’t know how many folks are really interested in this but the WaPo covered it so I’ll just link to it and offer a few comments.

The event was called  “Keeping your business healthy in a toxic economy”.  As a matter of fact, I’m not a business genius b/c I’m still working but I have managed to keep my business open for 10 years.  I guess the organizers figured that was sufficient…:)

I prepared this presentation by just coming up with 5 bullets and a brief note after each.  This is much different than my usual way of writing the whole thing out.  It seemed like it worked out – people laughed when I thought they should have and stayed awake the rest of the time…:)

Back to Richmond

I am in Richmond attending a seminar concerning strategies that local governments might use to help themselves during the budget crisis.  As one might expect, the strategies range from reasonably mundane to  downright risky.  Believe it or not and, despite our recent challenges, Manassas is in a pretty good position when compared to some of the other localities that I talked to at the conference.  To be sure, we aren’t in a happy spot but I feel as though we acted to keep our powder dry and position ourselves to emerge from the recesion with some momentum and not simply stumble along.
