Had some folks out sick on Wed so I had to drive and today it rained….hopefully tomorrow is better.
All Right Suckas. Here’s the latest experiment: My business is computer consulting. Most of my customers are in the Manassas area so I’m going to ride my bike to every service call that doesn’t include delivering a computer for the next two weeks. I actually started last week but it was pretty well washed out by the monsoon that was unleashed.
The experience so far isn’t bad but there are some unintended consequences: I think I’m going to have to cut my hair very tight in the near future. I’m not wearing a helmet consistently as I would have severe hat-head. Easier to cut hair short than get a new brain. The other issue is that when you’re driving, it isn’t a big deal for the office manager to hit me up and send me all over Manassas. When you’re riding a bike, it is a bit more challenging. I also have a tough time remembering to wear a rubber band on my leg to keep my khakis out of the chain and I haven’t taken a water bottle along but that ain’t far behind. I’m also going to need a different kind of jacket if this goes on for any length of time.
Interestingly, my technical skills are also expanding. When you’re riding a road bike, you don’t hop curbs. I jerk the hybrid bike all over the place. I jump curbs and everything else all in the name of keeping going. Manassas has some great areas for bikes but most of the areas that have been around for more than 20 years are kinda rough. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks…
