My Side of the Fence

The danger isn't going too far. It's that we don't go far enough.

Bike Trainer

So I got a bike trainer for Christmas!

trainer

It’s a Giant Mag 2 trainer. It’s a weird experience. The resistance is adjustable but it doesn’t seem to go high enough for my liking. I do sweat after awhile but it doesn’t seem very hard. I guess the point is simply to spin with minimal resistance. This isn’t, as I had thought, a replacement for a spin class. The level of resistance is completely different. It also seems like I have to use a pretty high gear because the resistance at lower gears isn’t enough to keep the spin steady.

Overall, it’s better than riding in the rain but not as satisfying as a real ride or spin class. These contraptions are also expensive.

Way to go Austin

Austin’s fundraiser, a 75-mile walk for CASA and the Boy’s and Girls club was today. He started to walk at midnight last night. I know that Chuck Rector walked with him for awhile. However, at about 4:00am Austin slipped on the ice and hit his knee. He wasn’t sure he could go on in the cold so he went inside the Freedom center and walked on their track. Sarah, Judy Wine and myself joined him for a couple of hours but at 10:00 Austin’s knee wouldn’t allow him to go on. All told he covered somewhere north of 35 miles!

Here are a couple of pictures, I had to ask for the smile as Austin was in a lot of pain.
