We have, to date, spent a little bit more than $2 million bucks to clean up after the two snow storms. No, we don’t have that much money in the budget for this and it will be coming out of contingency and fund balance. Let us hope that we don’t get another whopper. I’d rather leave the money in fund balance or spend it doing something to make the City a better place – longer term…:)

So, I sent Sarah, girl reporter, to the School Board meeting tonight. She reports that the room was packed with concerned parents, school folk and a couple of Council members. I was at home helping with math homework!

The plan is still in flux but the good news is that we appear to have some options. The schools are negotiating to lease the old Marstellar school for one of the grades and there are a couple of other options for the balance of the children. It looks like the first day of school for Mayfield kids will be Feb. 22nd.

Mayfield school has been inspected by several engineers as recently as today and they are determining how much the building has moved. As the snow is both removed and/or melts, they will be watching to see if the building moves back. This will determine what the fix is. Sarah indicates that the damage and the activities so far are covered by insurance. What that means exactly I don’t know.

Given the incredibly difficult position in which we (and this is a we situation) find ourselves, I think the School Board is doing a great job. More updates as I get ’em.
